After Two-Decade Military Career, Army Veteran Looks to Future with #1 Home Inspection Brand
(Augusta, GA)-Captain-retired Jeremiah Adell Jr. said he believes he has been called to a life of service. The 41-year-old has certainly lived up to that belief and continues to do so as he launches a new career as an owner within the Pillar To Post Home Inspectors® network, the largest home inspection franchise in North America. Launching operations in the new year, Adell’s Pillar to Post Home Inspectors serves homebuyers and sellers throughout Richmond and Columbia counties and surrounding areas.
A United States Army veteran, originally from Rochester, N.Y., Adell enlisted just prior to 9/11. He later commissioned as a Signal Officer after earning a business degree from Texas A&M University – Central Texas in 2013. Adell retired this past September after serving 22 years in the military.
Before retiring, Adell performed his due diligence in researching the home inspection industry and determined that Pillar To Post Home Inspectors was the premier brand in the market.
His timing for launching his new business venture couldn’t be better. Home inspections have become a vital part of the real estate sector, providing buyers and sellers with reliable information about the condition and value of a property. The U.S. building inspector industry, measured by revenue, is estimated to have a market size of $4.9 billion according to global research firm IBISWorld. Pillar to Post Home Inspectors has been at the forefront with its outstanding and innovative technologies that were introduced just in time to provide contactless home inspections during the pandemic.
“The company has a mission that’s focused on serving the homeowner and the values of Pillar To Post Home Inspectors are principles that I can stand behind,” Adell said.
Adell is a perfect example of why so many military veterans are a perfect fit to own a franchise. Veterans represent 14 percent of franchisees, and they prove a good fit for the franchise model because veterans possess strong leadership skills and a thorough understanding of being part of a team. Franchises also operate on proven systems and defined procedures and the military training that veterans go through allows them to easily adapt to a system and find success in franchising.
“As a U.S. Army veteran, leveraging a proven system on my path to business ownership was not only a good idea but a must,” Adell said. “I have more than 22 years of experience as a leader and organizational manager with the U.S. Army Signal Corps. I learned how to be a people-oriented leader and problem-solver, while also developing superior communication skills.”
As February is Black History Month, Adell says, “Black History Month is a celebration of our ancestors, black excellence, and the motivation to always strive for greatness despite current circumstances. We are our brother’s keeper and like those who came before us, we should therefore strive to make this world better than we found it.”
Adell has been married to his wife, Maria, a disabled Army veteran, for 17 years. The couple has five children: Nehemiah (15), Taniyah (13), Alyssiah (11), Moriah (10) and Josiah (9).
Adell is a perfect fit for Pillar To Post Home Inspectors and the business model affords him the opportunity to structure the business as he sees fit. He is looking forward to contributing to the local economy and community by providing future employment opportunities. One thing is certain, Adell couldn’t be more eager to launch the next chapter of his life as a small business owner.
“Greater Augusta is a prime area to grow the brand and provide the Pillar To Post Home Inspectors difference,” Adell said. “The Augusta area is beautiful, vibrant, and full of life. From the large military and medical communities to everything in between, this is a great area to grow and build a successful business.”
According to a 2023 survey by Clever Real Estate, a “find a real estate agent” website, 72 percent of homebuyers from 2020-2022 have regrets over their home purchase. The most common factors that contributed to their remorse were spending too much money and rushing into buying.
And there are some other important considerations to mull in addition to a home’s square footage and number of bathrooms. Clever’s survey also found that almost half of homebuyers – 43 percent – made financial concessions like waiving a home inspection amid fierce competition for homes, according to CNBC. And skipping that home inspection can be costly. A survey from insurance firm Hippo found that most homeowners – 77 percent – had to pay for an unexpected repair within the first year of owning a house.
