Retired from the army after 35 years of service, 54-year-old Ben York wanted to try something challenging and new. “Owning my own business is appealing to me because it gives me a large degree of control over operations, and I have both the responsibility and rewards for my efforts.”
That’s why Ben recently opened his Pillar To Post Home Inspectors serving Columbus, Georgia residents. The network is the largest home inspection franchise in North America.
To say York is a great fit for Pillar To Post is an understatement. “It’s an honor to have a franchisee with these accomplishments join our network,” said Randy Weaver, a Startup Director with Pillar To Post. “York’s circumstances and back story could not suit home inspection better.”
“After I did 20 years on the “operational side” of the military,” said York, I moved to DC and worked in and around the Pentagon for 15 years on the “Force Generation side” as a Force Manager for the Army. The duties are to provide recommendations to senior military leaders for what the future Army should look like to contribute to the Joint Force and achieve our National Objectives. I helped design our Nation’s current and future US Army in terms of manpower, equipment, and units. I am enormously proud to have served and grateful for all the opportunities the Army has afforded me.”
As for Pillar To Post, one third of their franchisees have a military background and have served their country.
“We understand the unique strengths that veterans offer, and we are honored to provide opportunities that help them transition to successful careers. With our executive model, our franchise business owners are fully involved in the business but don’t need to be home inspectors. Instead, they focus on building a local team to scale, aiming for at least $1 million+ in revenue,” said Eric Steward, Senior Director of Franchise Recruitment.
Now, working with homebuyers and sellers is York’s mission. Skipping that home inspection can be costly. A survey from insurance firm Hippo found that most homeowners – 77 percent – had to pay for an unexpected repair within the first year of owning a house. During COVID and the subsequent housing boom, many buyers skipped contingencies like home inspections, on contracts for a scramble to win the scarce homes available.
“No one should skip a home inspection or be put in that situation ever again. I am excited to serve Columbus and the Valley. One thing I love about Pillar To Post,” said York, ‘is their Ultimate Home Inspection™ using amazing innovative technology. The new groundbreaking tools won an award for ‘best use of technology for consumers’ presented by Franchise Update Media. That’s the level of franchisor I want to be in business with.”
