Home inspections have become a vital part of the real estate sector, providing buyers and sellers with reliable information about the condition of a property. The U.S. building inspector industry, measured by revenue, is estimated to have a market size of $4.9 billion according to global research firm IBISWorld.
The Starnes Team of Pillar To Post Home Inspectors® has been serving homebuyers and sellers throughout Clarksville, Tennessee as well as Hopkinsville, Kentucky and surrounding areas. In addition to all the other items that are covered by a thorough home inspection, they also offer termite inspections, radon and mold detection and water testing.
They have been so successful that when the opportunity suddenly arose to acquire the neighboring territory they jumped.
"It's a lot of driving," laughed Lori Starnes since they own and serve markets that are 2 hours each way in both directions, from Bowling Green, Kentucky all the way to below Nashville, Tennessee. "But we are up for it and love our clients and what we do."
Dave and Lori Starnes first launched operations with Pillar To Post Home Inspectors in March 2021 after moving back home to Clarksville, Tennessee. Their planned 2020 opening was delayed by the pandemic. The couple's journey actually began in Hawaii, where Dave had been a high school Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) instructor, while also running his own handyman/general contracting business. Likewise, Lori was an operations/property manager for 100 luxury vacation rental properties, in addition to running her own cleaning business.
In 2019, Lori was named as one of two recipients from Hawaii of an Elizabeth Dole Caregiver Fellowship, which recognizes the nation's more than five million military caregivers – spouses, parents, family members and friends - who assist veterans in need at home. The award was inspired by her care for husband Dave Starnes, who was seriously injured while serving on a combat tour in Afghanistan during his ninth deployment. The couple also has children who serve in the military.
Given her experience as a military spouse, Lori felt it was important for Dave to find a career in a field with structure, but also one that allowed for flexibility. "I felt it was important for Dave to find something that might allow him to collaborate with other veterans and use the skills he learned in the military," Lori said. "Being able to help families, both military and otherwise, is a great feeling for both of us. Home ownership is a dream for most people, and we get to be a part of that special process."
One of the many reasons the Starnes chose Pillar To Post Home Inspectors is due to the fact that at least one third of their franchisees have served in some branch of the military and many employees of these franchisees have also served.
"Pillar To Post's business model, goal structure, and training and support are excellent and reflect some of the duties a military leader of men would be comfortable with," offered Dave Starnes.
Another huge point was the innovative technologies the company introduced during the Covid pandemic. These advanced technologies were in the works as Pillar To Post is constantly improving the art of the home inspection. The timing couldn't have been better as they fast-tracked the "contactless" new programs to meet the chaos in the housing market during those 18 months.
"We are the team that goes the distance for real estate agents and asks our real estate professionals; "How can we help you-help your clients?" We offer multiple inspectors on our team, a marketing associate, a booking specialist with vast knowledge, and offering weekend inspections to ensure they get to that closing table and going the distance with clients long after the closing is completed." Lori Starnes concluded.
